In their ongoing efforts to pretend that nothing is wrong, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced today that crews will resume digging on the Bertha excavation pit tonight. At a City Council briefing yesterday, WSDOT rep Todd Trepanier told council members that the viaduct was no longer settling, though he admitted WSDOT did not really have enough information about the viaduct's movements to be sure. According to a MYNorthwest.com report, WSDOT is "confident that excacation is not a factor in the settlement", but "It has not yet confirmed that dewatering efforts are the only contributing factor." — B.A.
