Marty Hahne has a rabbit. Casey. Which the 54-year-old magician from Ozark Missouri pulls from a top hat – or, sometimes a picnic basket - when he performs his magic shows for kids. Marty has an official U.S. government license for Casey, which is why he got a letter recently from the federal Agriculture Department. The department, explained the letter, has a new rule: To keep his rabbit license Marty needs to submit a rabbit disaster plan. This is not a joke. According to Marty, his rabbit preparedness plan had to cover “fire, flood, tornadoes, ice storms, the air conditioning going out” and other potential disasters that could befall his co-star. Fortunately for Marty, after the Washington Post reported his story, the Agriculture Department decided to rethink its new bunny disaster-plan rule. (In the Marty, the Magician video below, Casey makes his appearance about three minutes and 30 seconds in.)
Bunnies need disaster plans too
