Washington’s first charter school, located in Seattle, has been placed on probation, Associated Press reports. The school first opened its doors to 96 students back in September and now three months later, The Washington State Charter School Commission says First Place School has failed to meet all the requirements of its charter agreement. The commission’s concerns include the lack of provision for special education, failure to give proof that all staff members had passed a criminal background check and a lack of timely reporting to the commission on school board actions. To monitor compliance, the commission now plans on making frequent visits to the school. — T.W.
