As the Seattle City Council prepares for discussions on the city's Bicycle Master Plan, who would have expected the issue of bike safety to hit so close to home. The Seattle Times reported that City Councilmember Richard Conlin was injured Sunday in a bike-car crash near his home in the Madrona neighborhood. Conlin broke his shoulder blade after his bike collided with a car. He's expected to return to work Monday morning. Conlin's longtime aide, Sara Nelson, told the Times that her 65-year-old boss texted staff to say his injury was painful, but thankfully didn't involve his brain. Nelson also suspected that as talks of the Bicycle Master Plan heat up later this summer, the incident will underscore the need for safe bike paths.
