Amy-Jill Levine, a self-described “Yankee Jewish feminist who teaches in…the Bible Belt” is the go-to gal these days for scholarly yet lively wisdom about how Jews and Christians read scripture and think about religion. This Vanderbilt Divinity School professor’s books include The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus and the multivolume Feminist Companions to the New Testament and Early Christian Writings. University Congregational United Church of Christ, Hillel UW, and the Washington Association of Churches are jointly sponsoring four lectures by Levine: “Jesus the Jew: Piety, Prayer, Purity and Practice,” “Understanding the Parables with Jewish Ears,” “How Jews & Christians Read Scripture Differently,” and “Jesus and Judaism; Sex and Gender.”
