Seattle pollster Stuart Elway got a big “atta boy” this week from national polling expert Nate Silver in his ranking of the nation’s polling organizations. Silver gave Elway Research an A+ rating, one of only nine pollsters to win the top rating. Silver’s rating chart looked at 16 recent Elway polls, a smaller sample than for the big national polling organizations. Elway was also rated dead-even on political bias, at just a 0.5 percent lean toward Democrats when compared with actual voting results; that's within the margin of error, a pollster would say. The region’s other major polling firm, Davis, Hibbitts & Midghall of Portland, also ranked highly (a B+). Most of the more than 300 organizations were rated around the C level. — F.M.
