Snohomish County can thank Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell for the $7.6 million in federal largesse that will be coming its way in the next few years. (Murray and Cantwell, along with U.S. Reps. Suzan DelBene and Rick Larsen, responded quickly after the March 2014 mudslide that killed 43 people, and they remain involved.) According to the Everett Herald, the county spent roughly $8 million to clear debris from the mudslide zone. The federal grants, from FEMA, are expected to cover about $7.6 million of that cost.
