In August 1995, helicopters circled Microsoft’s Redmond campus to capture the hysteria that was the launch of Windows 95. The cloud of anti-trust had parted long enough to allow PC consumers to line up overnight to buy copies of the new operating system. Ten years later Microsoft introduced Xbox 360, which made up a lot of ground for the company in the gaming industry, as Jay Greene writes for CNET.Tomorrow, Microsoft unveils Xbox 720, “a new generation.” Geekwire offers a good overview of the pricing and product features. Look for SKYPE, the video conferencing company Microsoft acquired nearly two years ago, to be strategically integrated. The Wall Street Journal and others today said the Xbox console faces challenges from smartphone companies, which increasingly are seen as “cool” platforms for gaming. Microsoft stock closed up on NASDAQ today.
