U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who made it to Obama's Medina event last night, spent the morning after at Seattle's City Hall, pitching women’s equality to a congregation of the converted — mostly women, that is. The audience lapped up a series of important, but mostly uninspired, speeches about the importance of affordable childcare and equal pay from Pelosi and colleagues, including Rep. Adam Smith and Rep. Suzan DelBene. The sharper Pelosi gems came during the Q&A session, when the former Speaker dug into political strategy in the other Washington. Before revealing a (House Democrat) plan to introduce a campaign finance reform bill in early January, Pelosi urged locals to pressure Congress into voting on the Immigration bill, an employee discrimination bill and a measure requiring background checks for gun sales. “We have the votes. We have 190 cosponsors at least,” she said about the Immigration legislation. “We want to make that … too hot to handle.” — B.A.
