            <p>In a blow to Republican governor, Pete Ricketts, a death penalty devotee, Nebraska's predominantly GOP legislature voted 30-to-19 on Wednesday to override the governor's veto and roll back the state's capital punishment law. The bipartisan vote, said <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/28/us/nebraska-abolishes-death-penalty.html?ref=dev.cascadepbs.org"><em>The New York Times</em></a>, made Nebraska "the first conservative state in more than 40 years to abolish the death penalty."</p>
