A young Seattleite was one of six architects to win the national Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship to work on affordable housing. Jess Blanch will work with Capitol Hill Housing for three years from 2016 to 2018, including on the nonprofit organization’s project to turn the site of the historic Liberty Bank building in the Central District into a mixed-use affordable housing area. Blanch previously worked as a designer at the Environmental Works Community Design Center in Seattle after graduating with a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Washington. She hopes to help Capitol Hill Housing incorporate sustainability into its building designs.
Since it started in 2000, the fellowship has so far been awarded to 62 architects from around the country who have helped design over 1,000 affordable homes and more than 80 community spaces.
