Sun has flare

According to NASA, our favorite space agency, our favorite sun emitted a "significant solar flare" — which peaked at 7:49 p.m. EST on Feb. 24. Naturally NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which is always just, you know, watching the sun, shot this awesome video (on the next page) of a flare erupting from the sun's surface, which it released on Sunday. NASA scientists say that if these powerful radiations bursts are intense enough, they can totally mess with the layer of earth's atmosphere inhabited by all our GPS and communications equipment. Relax. Down here on earth's surface, we are flare safe. — M.B.
