            <p>A growing demand for water in places like California is pushing water tech startups to propose alternative water filtration methods. Last month, CNN helped the companies <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2015/06/02/technology/water-cleaning-technology/?ref=dev.cascadepbs.org">gain a little notoriety</a>, explaining three promising methods: moss filtration, stone purification and chemical desalination. <a href="http://cwsnaturally.com/?ref=dev.cascadepbs.org">Creative Water Solutions</a> uses moss to help filter out swimming pools and spas. The company packages the moss into sleeves and places them near the pool's filters, reducing the chlorine smell and chemical-intake. <a href="http://www.advancedwaterrecovery.com/?ref=dev.cascadepbs.org">Advanced Water Recovery</a> claims their chemical method could reduce desalination costs by 70% and could be used to protect drought-prone regions. The company uses specialized chemicals to turn salt water into drinking water, filtering the chemicals back out through a proprietary process. <a href="http://www.nanostone.com/?ref=dev.cascadepbs.org">Nanostone</a> uses ceramic stone. Ceramic purification is nothing new, but the company says it makes the process cheaper by mixing stone and other materials into a durable honeycomb-like design that is easy to make.</p>
