A healthy kind of fat in the Methow

Washington's newest winter sport, fat biking, is something that works well even in low snow years, as an EarthFix report notes, but enthusiasts are enjoying the good snow this year in the Methow Valley. The name of the sport comes from the bicycles' fat tires, which do well in snow but are just fine on bare ground. Some see that combination as a way for tourist resorts and people wanting to be outside in the winter to adapt to global warming and lower snowfalls. The Methow was reportedly one of the first areas nationally to open up its cross-country ski trails to the bikes. So far, no serious conflicts with skiers or snowmobilers, and an extra source of income for Winthrop and surrounding areas that may spread: A Hood River bike shop held a demo this winer at the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort.

You can see good video of fat biking and the full report here.
