Heroin: Not resting on their laurels

King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray are asking a task force to look at ways to combat heroin- and opiate-use epidemics in the region. The task force includes the county's public health officer, Dr. Jeff Duchin, and Dr. Caleb Banta-Green, an epidemiologist at the University of Washington. As a Crosscut story noted earlier today, people around the country have been looking to the local Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program as a model for helping people facing addiction to heroin and opiates. A Frontline report for PBS gave significant attention to the LEAD program's innovative approaches.
