With time running out for the Legislature to update the state budget, Gov. Jay Inslee appears set to call lawmakers back into a special session. And it looks like he plans to carry out his threat to veto pending bills until the Legislature comes up with a special session.

In a press announcement sent out shortly before noon, his communications staff said he would hold a 10:30 p.m. news conference where he would announce details regarding a special session. The announcement said the governor would take action on a list of about three dozen bills awaiting his signature— and that veto messages would be available at the press event.

Crosscut's Tom James will be following the action — or inaction — in the Legislature all day. His report from this afternoon is here; an earlier report on the race to the finish line is here.
