Mayor Ed Murray seems to be striking a "best of times, worst of times" theme in his State of the City address. In a statement picked up by his office's press release, the mayor says, “Today the State of the City reflects the 21st Century dreams of the 1962 World’s Fair: a vibrant city driven by technology and science, creating jobs and innovation in everything from transportation to health care. The State of the City also reflects our worst fears from the Great Depression, as issues of homelessness and inequity continue despite decades of effort on the part of this City to resolve them.”

Similarly, Murray notes that crime is down but the police force is under stress. He promises to hire 100 additional police officers as well as 100 already budgeted for. Crosscut's David Kroman will have a full report later.
