December has been wet, and there’s no letup in sight through next week.
After a soggy weekend, two more storms have come into the area, resulting in 2 to 5 inches of rain in the Western Washington lowlands and 3 to 6 inches on the coast. A Pineapple Express effect that includes warmer temperatures has resulted from a more southerly jet stream. Snow levels will be at 7,000 to 8,000 feet, and the Cascades and Olympics are expecting 5 to 11 inches of rain.
The current weather is bringing flood watches for all rivers that flow off the mountains. The highest levels will appear on Wednesday and Wednesday night. There is also the threat of landslides in the lowlands, according to the National Weather Service and the U.S. Geological Survey.
Lastly, good news for snow-hungry Washingtonians — snow levels will be back down to 3,000 feet on Wednesday.
