Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat uses his own overpriced cab ride home from the airport to explore the city’s increasingly strained relationship with the ride-sharing service Uber. The service undercuts cab rates by quite a bit – hurting that business – but doesn’t pay its own drivers anything near minimum wage. Says one Uber driver: “Uber’s squeezing the cab companies, so we’re taking away their business. But Uber’s also squeezing its drivers. Uber makes money. Nobody else is.”
