The cities around Puget Sound are asking people to cut water usage by 10 percent beginning immediately, the Seattle Times reports. Washington’s hot summer broke records, the Puget Sound has never been so dry as it was from May to July, and a dry fall is likely. So while last month, when officials really asked people to avoid water waste, today the region’s three largest cities (Seattle, Tacoma and Everett) are really, really asking for citizens to voluntarily reduce their water use. If unsuccessful, each city would have to look at whether to impose water usage limits. The cities and other local water utilities have set up a site with ideas for saving water — everything from taking shorter showers and washing vehicles at commercial sites that recycle water to how to best mulch your lawn and how to get a rebate for installing a low-flow toilet.
