“To demonstrate the joys of recycling,” as Seattle Times aerospace reporter Dominic Gates puts it, Boeing tore apart a 25-year old 757 airliner on Tuesday. Since the jet ended its service with United two years ago, Boeing has used it to test various efficiency technologies. Now it’s being stripped of useful parts, with scrap metal prepared for reuse by a Tacoma company. Boeing’s video shows the jet being torn apart in a time-lapse of less than a minute and a half.
