As the city grows and rents rise, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and City Councilman Mike O’Brien are proposing what they call a “grand bargain” with developers – allowing bigger or taller buildings in some parts of the city in return for affordable units in all construction or fees to help pay for them. A city advisory committee estimates the plan would create 6,000 new units of affordable housing over the next 10 years, according to a KPLU report.
