The state Department of Transportation says that it is working with a contractor to repair a damaged underwater anchor cable for the Highway 520 floating bridge. The damage occurred within the past three weeks and doesn't threaten public safety. Associated Press reports that a construction vessel for the bridge reconstruction project may have caused the damage. Oops. The timing couldn't be much worse in terms of arguing for more funding from the Legislature. WSDOT says it will seek to identify the vessel and hold the owner responsible for the cost of repairs.
