The first major concert ever to occur at Safeco Field is set for tomorrow night, and when one of the biggest icons in music history — Paul McCartney — is coming to town, all the stops are pulled out. Navigating a schedule of over 80 home baseball games, coordinating equipment deliveries and protecting the field all complicate matters, but operations directors and groundskeepers have been planning in earnest for months. Installation of the stage began on Monday, and workers will potentially work overnight Thursday to make sure the stage is set for the Beatles star. The gig will be torn down before the Mariner's next game on Monday night. While no one has played The Safe for a major concert before, McCartney has experience in the neighborhood. Here's a video from a 1976 concert in a stadium across the street from Safeco's location — the late not-so-great Kingdome. He may not look this young any more but he's held up a lot better than the Kingdome.
