Campaign money returned

State Sen. Andy Hill, R-Redmond, is returning $1,900 he received in campaign donations from a non-profit organization, the Crossfire Foundation, reports seattlepi.com’s Joel Connelly. As an earlier Connelly story indicated, Crossfire, which promotes youth soccer, could risk losing its tax-exempt status for this kind of violation. In a closely watched race, Hill is up against Democratic challenger Matt Isenhower (one of several Democratic candidates who have gotten financial backing from the billionaire California environmentalist Tom Steyer). Hill is certainly not short on campaign funds, judging by the $600,000 he’s reported. Jess Honcoop, Hill’s campaign manager, told Connelly that Crossfire’s donations probably slipped through the cracks. After all, raising campaign money is such a “distracting situation.” — T.W.
