United Way of King County will host what is being called "the largest ever benefit for homeless youth" in this country: a softball game Saturday afternoon at Safeco Field featuring former Mariners, other local pro athletes and celebrities. (Disclosure note: Sponsors of the event include Crosscut supporters.) The Seattle Mariners are creating a softball diamond for the game, which will be six innings. Former all-stars Dan Wilson and Jay Buhner will be captains of the opposing teams, which will include Sounders midfielder Steve Zakuani, Seahawks receiver Golden Tate, chef Ethan Stowell and author Sherman Alexie — along with retired sports stars Gary Payton, Edgar Martinez and Detlef Schrempf. Some 20,000 tickets have already been sold and admission starts at $10. Full details are here.
