Outgoing U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, Jenny Durkan, is being mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. who plans to announce his resignation on Thursday afternoon. Asked in an email if she was interested in the job, a representative from her office said she had no comment. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, widely considered to be the top contender for the attorney general post, said today that he’s not interested.Durkan announced in early September that she will leave her current position, which she has held since 2009, at the end of the month. As U.S. Attorney, she chaired an advisory committee on cybercrime and intellectual property enforcement and helped spur an investigation by the Justice Department's Civil Rights division into the Seattle Police Department. Durkan grew up in Issaquah, graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received her law degree from the University of Washington, according to her biography on the Justice Department's website. President Barack Obama has not set a timeline for nominating a replacement. — B.L.
