Seattle schools superintendent José Banda announced a mixed bag of decisions about MAP, the Measures of Academic Progress testing standard which was at the center of a controversy early this year when it was boycotted by a group of Garfield teachers. For one thing, Seattle high schools will now have the option to opt out of MAP testing. Other announcements: MAP tests need only be administered twice a year (a third yearly test would be optional), a recommendation that schools use other assessment methods besides MAP to monitor student progress, and a statement of intention to recommend a new test for the 2014/2015 school year.
