Mars Hill makes dramatic move

Update 2:45 p.m. Mars Hill Church is essentially disbanding, blogger Warren Throckmorton reports (and his story was noted on The Slog). Pastor Dave Bruskas posted on their website today that the board “concluded that rather than remaining a centralized multi church with video-led teaching distributed to multiple locations, all of the existing churches will become autonomous self-governed entities.”So, basically, Mars Hill, at least as the mega-church we think of it now, will cease to exist as of Jan. 1. Each of the campuses will become “new churches,” but are supposed to be rooted in what Mars Hill was in the past. All of Mars Hill’s existing church properties will either be sold or the new churches can assume the loans on their churches property. The existing Mars Hill Church organization will be “dissolved” along with all of its business affairs.

Bruskas’ says, “Ultimately, the success of this plan, and the future viability of each of these new local churches rest solely on all of us continuing to be faithful in supporting Jesus’ mission through our attendance and continued giving.” – C.R.
