Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond is out for four games after violating the NFL's substance abuse policies. His transgression is a little different than the team's previous suspensions for performance-enhancing drug use: Various reports indicate that Thurmond dabbled in some unspecified recreational substance. The News Tribune's John McGrath is incredulous that Thurmond did something so stupid in what was shaping up to be a breakthrough year for him as a full-fledged member of the Legion of Boom defensive backfield. The standout sports columnist writes: "I just hope his trashing of the best year of his life doesn't deprive the Seahawks of the best year in their history." — J.C.
