Owner James Lathrop was turned down by 10 landlords before snagging a business location, and his business manager Amber McGowan sent 30 letters before finding Nine Point, the store’s marijuana supplier. Lathrop expects to sell out 10 pounds of pot, sold at $15 to $20 per gram, on his business’ first day. But those grams add up: By our quick calculations, he should take in more than $68,000 for his troubles, even at $15 a gram. Nine Point CEO Greg Stewart fears demand will surely exceed supply as more marijuana retailers open this summer, leaving shelves embarrassingly bare after all the hype. “I’m afraid of us all looking foolish to the nation,” Stewart told The Times.
