Senate Democrats today blocked the opening of a full-blown debate on President Barack Obama’s Trans-Pacific Partnership trade initiative. Associated Press reports that Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware was the only Democrat to vote to consider Obama’s request for “fast track” trade authority that would have Congress either ratify or reject the measure without amendment. Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch said, “It is the president’s party.”
