Seismologists at Oregon State University and the University of North Carolina believe that an underwater volcano about 300 miles off the coast of Oregon and Washington is erupting. OSU geologist Bill Chadwick and UNC's Scott Nooner accurately forecast the eruption last September, according to OSU. Scientists have detected thousands of tiny earthquakes in the region since last Friday and the seafloor has dropped nearly eight feet – signs, says the OSU blog, "that magma is moving toward the surface."
