Washington college officials go to the other Washington

Seven representatives from Washington state colleges attended the the first White House College Opportunity Summit in D.C. today, according to The Associated Press. President Barack Obama and the First Lady joined officials and leaders from colleges around the nation to discuss college readiness, degree completion and increasing the number of STEM graduates. Washington college participants came from Bellevue College, Olympic College, Renton Technical College, Saint Martins University, Seattle Colleges, Walla Walla Community College and Washington State University. At the beginning of his administration, Obama set a a goal for the U.S. to lead the world in college graduates. So far, the plan for execution has brough an increase in Pell scholarships by $1,000 per year, limiting student loan payments to 10 percent of income, creating the American Opportunity Tax Credit and rolling out an agenda to reduce the price of education and promote completion.
