GeekWire says Neil Bergquist, director of Seattle’s SURF Incubator, wants to break the Guinness World Record for biggest water balloon fight — and raise money for charity in the bargain. Bergquist has been here before. Earlier this year, he and 5,800 Seattleites broke the Guinness record for world’s largest snowball fight, while collecting $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of King County. For his assault on the water balloon mark, set by the University of Kentucky in 2011 by some 9,000 participants hurling 175,141 water balloons, Bergquist will hold a one-day, grownups only summer camp on August 17 at Seattle Center. Goals of Party Camp, as its called, are to get 12,000 tossers throwing 300,000 water balloons and raising $75,000 for Children’s Hospital. Bellevue’s Intellectual Ventures and the Seattle-based Igor Institute are working up a prototype water injection system that will, hopefully, fill 300,000 water balloons faster than the old garden hose method. Party Camp tickets are $25. Participants have to be 18 years old, and promise not to throw at anybody’s head.Blake Beavan photo courtesy of Seattle Mariners.
